Vapour permeable material

This means that damp can freely circulate and evaporate, so the risk of damp problems remains limited. This is why Rockwool is frequently used for cavity wall insulation, as the cavity often gets in touch with damp.

A lot of insulation materials partly lose their insulation value as the years go by. However, this does not apply to rock wool insulation. The initial value of rock wool will be retained, so your house will always be insulated sufficiently.

Sound insulation and fireproof
Apart from being an excellent thermal insulation material, rock wool is a suitable material to prevent noise and fire. Hence, a lot of unwanted sounds won’t be able to penetrate the house.

Glass wool vs rock wool

Contrary to glass wool, rock wool insulation does not cause that much skin irritation. In terms of environmental friendliness, however, glass wool performs better.

The main reason why people often prefer fibreglass insulation instead of rock wool, has to do with the purchase price. The purchase price of rock wool is usually about 10% higher. In order to make a correct price comparison, it is best to consider the density (quantity of material per cubic metre). This may differ widely from producer to producer, which obviously affects the price and insulation value.
